The showerhead can accumulate a lot of limescale over time. We can disassemble and clean it thoroughly. Below are the steps to disassemble and clean the showerhead, which can be divided into four steps.

1. Preparation

Before disassembling the showerhead, make sure to turn off the shower valve. You will also need to prepare the necessary tools for disassembly, such as a screwdriver and a small metal piece.

2. Disassembly of the showerhead

There is a nut that fixes the showerhead to the hose. First, tighten the nut by hand to loosen it and then separate the showerhead from the hose. Place the showerhead aside. In the middle of the showerhead, there is a round cap. Use the small metal piece to pry into the groove of the round cap to remove it. At this point, you will see the fixing screw, which can be unscrewed with a screwdriver to open the showerhead. Make sure to also take out the filter inside the showerhead.

3. Cleaning the showerhead

Pour clean water into a basin and add an appropriate amount of white vinegar. Soak the disassembled showerhead in the vinegar water and then use an old toothbrush to scrub the components clean. Rinse them with clean water afterward. You can also use lemon slices to wipe the showerhead or toothpaste for cleaning, among other methods. Typically, it is recommended to clean the showerhead every six months.

4. Assembling the showerhead

First, reinstall the filter, then place the round cap back on the base of the showerhead and tighten it with screws. After that, cover the round cap to conceal the screws. Finally, reconnect the showerhead with the hose. Once the showerhead is properly installed, turn on the shower valve to check if the water flows smoothly from the showerhead.

In summary, this is a simple guide on how to disassemble and clean a showerhead. I hope this article provides reference and assistance for your future cleaning of the showerhead. Some showerheads cannot be disassembled; in such cases, soak the showerhead in vinegar water for 2-3 hours to help remove the limescale.
